Report: Okwawu United 3:0 Odweanoma FC

Our first match in zone 8 with Odweanoma FC was very tight to start. The postponement of our first two games by the Eastern Regional Football Association caused so much uneasy in camp. The pressure on players and technical team to deliver was very high. All facets of the game was carefully scrutinised to get the ultimate results for our first home game.

Supporters were there in numbers despite the match been played as a mid week fixture in cheering the team on for victory. Their presence and show of love together with the security personnel produced a charged atmospheric environment that every football game is characterized with.

With just 5minutes played, Twumasi Asare Frimpong’s (18) strike was miscalculated by goalkeeper Patrick Avenue Jnr (30) leading to the game opener by the Asaase Aban lads. The soccer mountaineers kept pilling pressure on the visiting team with several wasted chances for more goals. Center referee in the 30th minute pointed to the spot after a defender fouled Twumasi Asare Frimpong in yard box denying a goal scoring opportunity. Richard Appiah – Carlos(14) stepped up for this task but his kick was perfectly saved by Patrick in post for the visitors. Half ended with the defence of Okwawu united marshalled by Michael Boateng (4) and goal keeper Emmanuel Gozar (28) protecting the only goal scored.

Second half begun with several midfield battles in high tempo resulting in flash of caution cards by the centre referee to both teams. Emmanuel Gozar was called to duty with a wonderful save after a deflected free kick nearly found the back of the net in 50th minute. Asante Ofosuhene (22) increased the tally for the soccer mountaineers after heading a strike from Twumasi Asare Frimpong ( Azonto) into his own net in 60minute.

Twumasi Asare noted for his attacking exploits made it three (3) in the 75minute for the Yenti Gyae boys. Coach Bismarck Asiedu made tactical changes by introducing Abdul Malik Walasey, Francisco Fianku Nortey, Ernest Frimpong, Augustine Asante and Yayah Amani for tiring Prince Siaw, Micheal Boateng, Prince Asare, Twumasi Asare Frimpong and Asare William respectively.

Game ended 3:0 in favour of the Asaase Aban lads announcing yet again the intent of qualification to division one this season. Officiating was highly commendable with very little errors committed by the match officials as a true reflection of the game.

Our supporters were in their vintage best and solidly rallied behind the team even after the wee minutes scare by the opposing team. They sang and chanted till the final minute. We are grateful to all who supported in diverse ways for this very much needed victory. We will keep Climbing till we attain the ultimate goal.
